Program and Practice Testing to Inform Policy Change

FPWA draws on the knowledge, experiences, and lessons learned on-the-ground to inform policy and systems-level change.

Program Modeling that Informs Systems Policy

Through policy research and advocacy and our contact with Member Agencies and communities, FPWA works to model policy on what will have the most effective impact to keep New Yorkers housed, fed, healthy, safe, and on a path to economic stability.

Change

People-Centered Systems

The Human Services Sector plays an integral role in supporting the needs of individuals. To truly create positive change in the lives of individuals however, we must make significant changes at the systems level.  We must address the ways in which systemic trauma, poverty, and bias play out in the day-to-day lives of individuals and communities. FPWA offers trainings and other resources that address these large issues and connect the dots between direct service programs, policy advocacy, and systemic change.

Poverty to Prison Pipeline

If you are poor in New York City – especially if you are a low-income person of color – there’s an increased likelihood that you will be drawn into the criminal justice system. The challenges of economic survival then multiply and often have intergenerational, destabilizing effects. A mechanism is already in place, however, that can help interrupt this pipeline – human service organizations.

FPWA has recently been receiving claims from members of the public emailing and calling our offices that individuals posing as FPWA agents have contacted them claiming that in order for the recipient to claim grant monies from FPWA they must first send the agent personal information, a cell phone number, gift card codes or money.

FPWA does not use social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), text messages or direct phone contact to solicit, review, or make awards. FPWA staff will not call or message you requesting money in order to be eligible for an award.

Further, FPWA does not make grants directly to individuals. FPWA works with its member agency partners and other reputable community-based organizations to direct support to families and individuals in our community.

If you or someone you know has been contacted by someone posing to be an “FPWA Agent” or staff person requesting money to release a grant, please do the following:
